True & False Prayer

Here in Mt 6. 1-15, Jesus says...

Be careful not to do your good deeds in front of people, just in order to be seen by them!

Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in Heaven.

Therefore, when you do good deeds, don't "blow your own trumpet" in front of everyone like the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets -- just so that they may be praised by men!

Listen carefully to Me -- they have their reward! But when you do good things for others, don't let your left hand know what your right hand does, so that your good works will remain secret. But your Heavenly Father sees what is done in secret! And He Himself will repay you openly!

And when you pray, you don't pray like the hypocrites who love to pray openly, standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets so that they can be seen by everyone!

Listen carefully to Me -- they have their reward! But you, when you pray, enter into your room and shutting your door, pray to your Father in secret. But your Heavenly Father sees what is done in secret! And He Himself will repay you openly!

Now, when you pray, don't babble empty and meaningless words like people who don't know God often do -- they're deluded into tining that God will hear them simply because they use so many words. Don't be like them, for your Father knows what things you have need of before you ask Him.

Instead, pray in this manner:

  • Our Father who is in Heaven, let be sanctified Your name.
  • Let Your kingdom come; let Your will be done, as it is in Heaven, also on the earth.
  • Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors.
  • And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil,
  • For Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory, forever -- Amen.

Because if you forgive men their offenses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their offenses, neither will your Father forgive your offenses!
